Not Diablo, nor Baldur's Gate October 25, 2007 holdyourlight (Greece) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let's start by saying that I HATE Diablo 2, but I loved Dungeon Siege 2, so you can tell that the 2 games really are very different. DS2 is so much better than DS1, so if you liked DS1 it's pretty sure that you gonna also like DS2. Yes, there is still lots of hack and slash, but less than DS1 and far less than Diablo 2. The story is much, much richer than DS1, the music is wonderful, the graphics are just as good as one can expect from a modern RPG (which means lots of details, effects, shades and whatever the game developers can think of so that to take our graphic cards to the limits; I'm not always fond of this stuff so I reduced some of the graphic details, although my system could handle them pretty well). But the gameplay is the best part of the game. Lots of quests organized in your journal (you can even know how many more quests, optional and not, remain until you finish the game), easter eggs, books and history to read and other very cool stuff that make the game far more different than the average action rpg. It's just the kind of RPG I like to play, not too action nor too story-oriented. DS2 has both at equal amounts. Concerning the expansion pack that comes together with the box, is not that great as the original game, but definitely not bad. So, if I would rate the original game with 5 stars, and the expansion with 4 stars and keeping in mind that I have found the whole package is currently being sold for 10-15 euros, yes, it's an absolute must buy and the purchase deserves the 5 stars.
Not bad.. June 17, 2007 Paul the Brit' (Britain) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is great escapist fun. It's not too difficult, the environments are pretty and the play is straightforward. There is a lot to see and some thought has gone into the backgrounds. My one complaint is I hate having weapons and armour on screen I can't take! If a crossbow is lying on a table in a camp why can't I take it? If I can't- why put it there? That aside the only failure in this game is that you can't be a thief type character.. You are either a warrior, archer or spell chucker and that's it- just like DS part 1. But- it is a nice change from Oblivion and Morrowind and it's a lot more involving than Neverwinter Nights 2!
It resembles Balurs Gate 3 NOT Diablo 3!!! April 21, 2007 Janos R. Hefko (UK) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
There is a review stating this game should be called Diablo 3. I dont thik he is right. Anyone who is not only a clicketty-click combat game fan, but an actual RPG fan who played the original Baldur's Gate series can tell this game is much more than Diablo, it has anything as Diablo has, plus there is fantastic story and motivating side quests, interaction and conversations between player companions, pausing in combat, a LOT more different type of things to develop and collect like books, chants and so on...
Nice of Microsoft to give us Diablo 3 February 5, 2007 Total warrior (UK) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
Basically this is Diablo 2 with a 3d engine. And I don't mean this has a passing resemblance to Diablo 2 - it is pretty much an exact copy with new graphics. Hack and slash mouse button clicking with an RPG veneer? Check. Paper doll character equipping? Check. Set items? Check. Magic items + Rare items? Check. Imbuing items? Check. Character skill tree? Check. I even recognise half the monsters and levels from Diablo 2! So why 4 stars? Basically because I loved Diablo 2 and played it more than was healthy, so with no Diablo 3 on the horizon a chance to play a remake of the game is great. But if you haven't got Diablo 2 buy that first then get this if you feel the need for another fix.
