5 out of 5 stars NEW BATTLE PLANS - THINK FAST COMMANDER!   March 23, 2008

I generally do not like expansions. They used to be additions only very successful games got to have. Nowadays they are mostly the...other half of the game the publisher withheld when selling us half the original for 30! C&C:KANE's WRATH is a rare exception that brings new dimensions to an already great game!

Story-wise, although an expansion, this is somewhat of a prequel to C&C3-TIBERIUM WARS, as it is set on the history of NOD, starting off just after the 2nd Tiberium War and continuing well past the 3rd.
There is a big campaign comprising of 13 single player missions, new units and upgrades and a new (a la RISE OF NATIONS) Global Conquest mode, that can turn C&C3 into a Turn-Based game! What make this REALLY interesting are the six subfactions, each with its special units, strengths and weaknesses. Not to worry, all GDI, NOD and Scrin get their own off-shooting factions.
On the opposite ends of the spectrum, there is Reaper-17 (a Scrin sub-faction): with hard-hitting and powerful offensive options; and then there is Traveler-59 (also a Scrin offshoot): a much more devious faction that relies on mind control of humans (remember how much fun Yuri's Revenge? was). In between, GDI's (retro) Steel Talons and (futuristic) ZoCom and NOD's (mind-benders) Black Hand and (cyborgs galore) Mark of Kane.

Production of the new epic-units can tip the battlefield scales dramatically. Most are not only devastating but are pretty hard to take down too. GDI gets the MARV [Mammoth Armed Reclamation Vehicle], a souped-up triple-barreled tank; NOD gets the Redeemer, an augmented killer avatar; whereas, Scrin get the Eradicator Hexapod, a impressive six-legged mech.
Revamped units, such as the Shard Walker or the Reaper Tripod, or back-to-the-drawing-board units, such as the Prodigy or the Ravager all add to a renewed experience. Moreover, as a long-time C&C fan, I particularly enjoyed the reappearance of good-ol' units such as Titans and Wolverines on the side of GDI!

The graphics are beautiful, the physics detailed and the explosions and beam-weapons spectacular! Don't forget to turn on the volume on those speakers, because this is a total immersion experience.

As with the original: it misses the 5th star for fun because one cannot hold a battle formation while moving. As most units move at different paces (and although the AI has improved they keep bumping on each other), this results in the more agile, yet vulnerable, units having to face the enemy first - a short-lived sight... May be the next C&C (say, RED ALERT 3) could have some TOTAL WAR infused into it, with battle formations options.

Finally, be advised that this is an expansion and, yes, you do need the original C&C3: TIBERIUM WARS to play it. If you do not have it, take note that there is a pack available, including both original game and expansion (the prices fluctuate so make sure to get the best deal).

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5 out of 5 stars More of the same....but better!   March 29, 2008

As expected, Kane's Wrath is fairly similar to C and C 3, same graphics, same game engine, same principal. BUT the plethora of added features breathe a good few years more life into the game: World Domination, the new campaign and the new factions.

However, if you experienced game errors with the original...bad news...they weren't fixed with this expansion.

Beware owners of ATI graphics cards! Most of the problems are caused by these, while new drivers etc may fix them. Mobility (laptop grpahics cards) seem to be the most prone to crashing.

Unfortunately I am plagued by these errors so feel like the game is constantly working against me...but when it works it is brilliant!

And for anyone missing the factions from Tiberian Sun, you will not be disappointed: Titans and Wolverines return!

5 out of 5 stars A worthy expansion!   March 29, 2008

After the worldwide acclaim of Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, EA manage to bring us a worthy add-on this game is awesome with new units, infantry, all new epic units which a so big they need their own structure, new sub factions and additional upgrades. However ATI graphics cards will struggle with my Geforce 8600 GT i can just manage running it at full tilt but no worries this expansion doesn't require any extra RAM so you'll be hooked in no time!.

4 out of 5 stars Oh now come on!!??   August 22, 2008

Now I really enjoyed this game but it seems others have a different view so ok lets try to clear things up.

Step 1
A) If you did not enjoy this game or feel you may not enjoy this game then do not continue - this is not for you
B) If you enjoyed the story of the Tiberium Saga so far and wish to learn more about the game and its story then move to Step 2

Step 2
Ok good. Basiclly this game is a full NOD campaign which is hinted by the games title >_> for those not guessing already!
It takes places BEFORE tiberium wars (number 3) then sets itself during 3 and then AFTER 3 (setting itself for number 4)
I wont spoil it for you but saying any of the story but its GOOD!!
I really enjoyed the Tiberium Saga so far and to be honest its possibly one of the best story telling games so far. Its spanned for over 10 years so far and its still going strong.

If you feel the need to find out what Kanes really up to and fill in the blanks (left there for good reason i assure you) then do get this game. Story wise its pretty good. Gameplay wise its exactly the same as number 3 (which was good) but this adds more units much like the Titan walker for GDI and the Artillery for NOD. Pretty fun gameplay but if your after the next puzzle in the story then go ahead, add it to your basket, wait for the postey and you'll enjoy it.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good, a bit rushed   April 9, 2008

Overall I'm a fan of the C&C Tiberium games. This latest expansion is pretty good in that it takes the existing factions, puts on some spin, and adds new ways to play them, as well as adding some new units and sub-factions. The addition of the global conquest style of play is a nice touch, clearly competing against the equivalent style in the latest Dawn of War.

If you're a fan of the series, well, you'll be buying this anyway. If you're looking for a good expansion to an RTS, well, it's not bad. The video cut-scenes are mostly all cast on the same set, and the plot could have been dramatically expanded over what it is, but nonetheless it's the same C&C we know and love, so, criticisms aside, it's worth a look.

For those boycotting SecuROM and their awful copy protection rubbish, sadly, this game does come with it. If you can manage as a paying customer to get it to actually run, you'll probably enjoy the game. I did.
