Amazon.co.uk The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
 Join the Dark Side |
You are Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice View larger. | Use The Force to disable your enemies View larger. | Artwork of the Jedi "Maris" View larger. | As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics system, these new technologies create gameplay only possible on the new generation of consoles. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioural-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behaviour on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.
Game Features:- During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
- Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
- Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
- The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
- The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
- In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.
- Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility.
- The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles, and it represents the first in-game collaboration of talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco's Presidio district.
- The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd.
- LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press.
Meet the Cast The Star Wars Saga will continue in 2008 with LucasArts' biggest-ever video game event. Set during the "dark times" between Episodes III and IV, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed portrays the previously untold story of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice -- and now you can put a face to that mysterious character as well as the major supporting cast members as LucasArts unveils the actors set to star in The Force Unleashed. The New Technology of The Force Unleashed With The Force Unleashed, LucasArts not only introduces a new chapter in the Star Wars saga, but also two completely new and innovative technologies -- Digital Molecular Matter by Pixelux Entertainment and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. These groundbreaking technologies combine with Havoc physics to create true next-gen gameplay and the Force like it's never been seen or experienced before.

May the force be with you... September 28, 2008 Scotty Apps (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this game! From the graphics, the voice acting, the story line and the overall feel....Lucas has actually managed to create something good again, which half redeems himself for the disastrous "Phantom Menace" and "Attack Of The Clones"...by god he needed to pull something out the bag, and now he has. The game begins with you as Vader on the hunt for a rogue Jedi, set just after the 3rd film "Return Of The Sith". Vader ploughs through the level with absolute ease destroying countless Wookies and foes along the way...he destroys the Jedi and thus discovers the Jedi's son whom he can feel has a powerful connection with the force, Vader "adopts" the child and raises him to use the dark side, and this is the character you play in the game. The game see's you at first hunting down rogue Jedi who managed to escape the massacre in the 3rd film. All runs very smoothly indeed and each Jedi is in a completely different enviroment to the last. From star destroyer space ships to junk yards to mushroom infested planets. The graphics in all of these settings are truly beautifully crafted. They look very similar to the latest three films...then again though thats because the last three films looked like computer games!! So it makes you feel as though you are playing something that really is part of the series. Was this a deliberate ploy by Lucas? Probably not. The character grows in power as you play, allowing you to choose between skill, power resilliance etc as you wish, as the game progresses you can feel a real difference in how the character also develops from Vaders apprentice to a formidable force in his own right, with lightening from your finger tips to actually pulling starships out of space with your bare hands!! Awesome!. When Vader betrays you you turn to the good side and Vader and the Emperor becomes your enemy. I think the reason I like this game is because for once it has been done with the skill care and dilligence a Star Wars game deserves. It truly is a wonderful peace of work. And because it is not based on any of the films it cannot be criticised for not giving a true reflection, instead it stands completely on its own and must be judged on its own merits. I love it, a definate must buy!
Depends on what you are looking for... October 7, 2008 Daywalker (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you are looking for an in-depth game, free-roaming gameplay and exploration, and you are keen to get stuck into a huge virtual world, then this is not really appropriate for you. If, on the other hand, you want a game where you don't really think too much, it doesn't take ages to get through, and most of all, the main gameplay element is FUN then this is most certainly for you. I agree with those reviewers who rate this pretty low, as it isn't the deepest or most free-roaming game in the world. But thats not the idea - the idea is to be able to force-lightenening your way through hordes of stormtroopers, being surrounded in tight spaces and repulsing soldiers into the wall, flinging people off platforms, or indeed into other people, bringing down tie fighters with explosive barrels and performing devastating lightsabre attacks infused with force lightening and combined with force push. I love it. If I wanted a great free-roaming RPG I'd have got Mass Effect. Which I did, and thats great too.

Been waiting for this game for awhile now, saw some screen shots but tried not to pay too much attention to what was being said as hype does tend to ruin games.I'm probably about 3/4 of the way through it and i can tell u this game is amazing! i don't know how anybody could give it a bad review. the start up cutscene is like all good star wars stories, the usual music and paragraphs floating through space, followed by some kind of huge space ship. u play the first level as Darth Vader, its not very long but gives u a good taste of things to come. he doesn't have the same force powers as the apprentice (no force lightning unfortunately)but the ones he doesnt have are at their highest level, force push being devastating on bridges. U fight a jedi at the end of the level, obviously why vader is there in the first place but to be honest hes rubbish in comparison to vader, u almost feel cruel lol. the end cut scene for that level is brilliant but i wont spoil that for u. After this u continue the game as the apprentice who is obviously alot weaker than vader at the start and becomes more powerful as u earn experience and level up. u choose which powers to upgrade, which combos to buy and which permenant buffs to have active. u can also customise ur lightsaber, choosing which bonus crystal u have in there (each of which have different effects) and u can pick any colour u want for ur lightsaber, provided uve found the correct colour crystal (probably about 20ish different choices all in all). u can also choose ur costume, again provided uve unlocked the one u want. so in short, customisation in the game is far more than i was expecting. the gameplay itself is fairly unique, and i can understand why some ppl may find it a little sluggish but to be honest once uve played through a few levels u get used to timing attacks better and which ones work better against which enemies. often the fights get pretty frantic, reminds me of devil may cry in a way (dont get me wrong tho it plays differently from that). The enemies are fairly varied and the increase in difficulty from level to level is steady, allowing u to really get used to how ur new powers/combos work. The boss fights are very good fun, although some what frustrating at times wen u just cant seem to hit the git! u obviously have lightsaber locks, but u also get force locks and these have their own QTE event where timing is of the essence. the bosses also become steadily more difficult, but also satisfying wen u finally get that last strke in and the QTE pops up for u to finish them off. always an impressive display! alot of games over do QTE these days (viking springs to mind) but for me personally theres just enough in this game that sometimes u forget that ones about to come up so it does actually catch u off guard, like it should do! There are some bad points about this game tho. Seeing as though it came out friday and ive nearly finished it and lots of other ppl are on their 2nd playthrough it shows the game isnt that long. this isnt a problem provided the game has replayability, but i will have to come back and edit this review after i've finished it and let u kno... sometimes the camera angles are dodgey and slow to change, which can be frustrating during a hard fight or wen ur trying to throw something through the air and keep missing. u can move the camera urself though so usually its not too much of an issue. some of the enemies are also very frustrating! the ones particular enemy i'm thinking of on the 3rd level that u just seem to clash with all the time. very annoying! All in all id say this game is great for star wars fans, or anybody that just wants to anihilate lots of aliens and destructable enviornments in the most devastating ways possible. i wudnt say this game was for everybody, hardcore gamers may get bored easily after completing it on hard. alot better than i was expecting though, it cudve gone so wrong! maybe they'll even make a new star wars film out of it, who knows...
The Best Star Wars game so far! September 20, 2008 Takato 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Well having completed the game an hour ago, I can tell you that this game os one of the funnest games I have played in a long time. The game - for me at least was "button glitch free" and extremely enjoyable, with plenty of replay value - there are even 2 endings to choose from!!!
