5 out of 5 stars Addictive fun!   December 10, 2007

I had never entertained the idea of getting 'Guitar Hero' because I can't play the guitar and assumed this was a necessary skill. Not so!

I finally got round to buying 'Guitar Hero III' this weekend, almost entirely because it has a cartoon picture of Slash on the box. The new wireless guitar is fairly easy to set up, and after a song or two, even non-guitarists like me get the hang of how to play the game. Being a guitarist may be a hinderance, if anything, as you don't necessarily play the notes when you think you 'should' (if you know the track) - you have to followup the coloured blobs on the screen. This meant my husband constantly missing notes because he was trying to play in time to the song, as ge would on his real guitar, but I didmuch better by just following the screen.

There are allegedly 70 tracks in this game, but when you first start off, you can only play 8 of them: You unlock more tracks by playing these 8. Beat Tom Morello in a noodley guitar solo 'play-off' and get a Rage against the machine bonus song; beat Slash, and get a bonus GnR track ('Welcome to the Jungle' \m/). You can also buy extra tracks with cash you earn while playing the game - I invested in the Stone Roses 'She bangs the drums'.

On 'easy', the tracks don't seem to get that much harder with each advancing level, there are just more of them. I was overjoyed to find that Sonic Youth' 'Kool thing' appeared as a playable song around level 5. I've already had a sneaky peek at other tracks which will become playable later, and canot wait for Metallica 'One'.

I think this may be harder than Guitar Hero II (which I also bought) - GH2 doesn't seem to mind if you miss notes, but GH3 plays a horrible 'donk!' noise and then goes silent for all the notes you missed. It becomes very obvious when you're playing badly

This game is a time hoover. I turned it on about 5pm, played "for half an hour" and realised it was half nine. It's great. Addictive, fun.. and for aging rockers like me, really nice to be be able to play along with some of me ol' faves. Buy eet!

5 out of 5 stars Best Guitar Hero yet   November 24, 2007

I'll keep this as concise as possible. Firstly, the Wireless Kramer guitar is worth it alone. No fancy ornamental design, just a straight-up, jet black guitar that, I feel, is more Metal than Rock. It really adds to the illusion. Some people have complained that it takes a while to get to the 'good' songs but that is what this series is all about. Obviously the songs that you know are the ones you look forward to playing virtually but, equally, the discovery of songs you didn't know about makes Guitar Hero just as exciting. My skill level so far doesn't extend beyond Medium difficulty and even then Metallica's 'One' and Slayer's 'Raining Blood' were causing chaos on my fingers. God only knows what Hard and Expert are like! Add the inclusion of the legendary Slash and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), who both composed brand new original pieces of music for the game, as Bosses who you have to out play in order to beat and you have the best Guitar Hero yet. If you love your Rock 'N' Roll and are remotely musically inclined, you'd be hard pushed to find better than this. You may even be inspired to pick up a real guitar afterwards!

5 out of 5 stars Yes it does come with a 'Kramer' wireless guitar controller!   January 5, 2008

This package does include a black 'Kramer' wireless guitar controller. In my opinion it is a good quality guitar controller.

The box includes:
Guitar Hero III Game
Wireless Kramer Controller
Adjustable Strap
Sticker Sheet
2 AA Batteries

I found that the controller also works with Guitar Hero II.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant game, totally addictive.   April 25, 2008

I was in two minds whether or not to buy this game, and as i dont play the guitar, i wasnt sure if it was for me. However, after having only recieved the game yesterday, i have already completed it on easy and am now working my way through the medium setting! My hands hurt, my wrists ache and my fingers feel like they're about to fall off - but it is all so worth it because this game is brilliant. Its a simple concept but is totally addictive to play. Even when you have completed the songs, they're great to go back and play again and again because they're, mostly, all great songs.

So I strongly recommened anyone who, like me, was in two minds about buying this game. Buy it now while the price is low and play it til your fingers feel like they're going to fall off!
