Buy cheap, buy twice. Buy Dyson, buy once! August 17, 2007 Mr. M. Stickley (UK/BFPO) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I had heard people rave about Dysons and could never bring myself to cough up such a large amount for a Vacuum cleaner. 2 50 cheapo cleaners later, a sea of dog hair having rendered them useless, I took the plunge. W-O-W! We borrowed a friends while we waited for it to arrive and managed to suck up 4 - yes 4 - containers full of pet hair and dirt in the first use. Our DC20 then arrived, and eager to set to, I was off! Just vacuuming (or should that become Dysoning? - after all hoovering is now parlance) 4 of our 8 rooms in the flat picked up another container full of hair - 3 days after our 4 container mega clean! This vacuum is simply brilliant. The compact design and easy to manoeuvre wheels, combined with the hose and turbine head make vacuuming a doddle. The turbine head just thrashes dust, pet hair and other detritus out of the carpet, leaving it cleaner than I have ever seen it. The hard floor tool made short work of the kitchen and I am now itching to try the skinny nozzle and mini-turbine head in the tighter to reach areas. In short, if you were reluctant to shell out for a Dyson and you have a pet, the animal range is a must. We borrowed a DC11 (I think) and purchased a DC20 - you will not regret it. Vacuuming is almost a fun activity now!

We took a deep breath before shelling out for the Dyson DC 20. After all, there aren't many makes that make Miele seem cheap! We've had a Dyson upright for a number of years and it has always given good service but was unable to cope with the hairs generated by our chocolate labrador. With the addition of a new black lab puppy, action was needed to avoid us sinking into a mass of dog hair. I hate going to work looking like I've lent my suit to the dog! The Dyson feels solid and durable. It clips together easily, even though the instructions don't have any words and the pictures sometimes need a little working out. It's also more compact than I expected. When you start vacuuming, a clear strip appears across the carpet, almost like the effect of a paint roller. Hairs were gone...completely! With the various tools supplied it's easy to get right to the edge of the floor, along skirtings and stairs. Other people have said that the dust capacity is small and that it needs to be emptied frequently and while that's true, it's partly because the suction is so powerful it collects a lot of muck. So in summary, if you want dog hairs cleaned up, buy this. Just don't look at the price!

I live with two black long haired cats which are forever leaving balls of fur around the house. We previously owned the Vax 6140 Pet Vax Multifunction Vacuum Cleaner 3 in 1 Wash and Dry 1300W which at the time I thought was the leader in the market, however once the machine died after a only a few years we opted for the Dyson Animal which I have to say is on of the best vacuum on the market and I am amazed at how clean my carpets look after a once around, with a variety of heads it picks up everything and I am slightly concerned how the cats have any hair left on there body with all that I keep seeing in the cylinder. Works well on beds, sofas etc and whilst a pretty penny I would say its worth every penny. my only regret is I didn't find it years ago.
