5 out of 5 stars Forget the Oven   July 7, 2007

Had this microwave for approximately eight months and now hardly ever use the oven unless I'm cooking a really large joint. If you love roast chicken then get this machine. For a perfectly roasted 1.5kg chicken in 35mins (approx) with a lovely crispy skin and juicy succulent meat do the following. Wash your chicken and dry then place in a container large enough to sit the chicken (I use a large glass casserole dish) in the bottom of which you need to place a small upside-down saucer or something similar to lift the chicken above the fat. Place the chicken breast down onto the saucer and pop in microwave. Then press 'Combination' then press 'Grill' once then press 'Microwave' once then key in 35mins and press start. After 20mins turn the chicken breast side up and cook for the remainder of the time. Take out and pull open the legs to check they are cooked inside. If not I make sure both legs are pulled open from the body of the chicken (not removed) and cook for another 3 mins on full power. Remove chicken pop onto a clean plate and leave for 5mins to soak up the juice. That's it.

This microwave is also perfect for oven chips if you use the convection setting. Just press the 'Convection' button until the heat is 210c then pop the metal turntable on top of the glass one and press 'start'. Once the microwave beeps put the frozen oven chips on the very hot metal turntable and pop that onto the chrome stand back into the microwave and cook for approx 20mins and remember to turn once with a spatula.

I make all my curries, casseroles, soups, lasagnes, steak pies and choc chip muffins using a rubber muffin tray, and nobody has ever said the food looks like it came out of a microwave. It also steams fish and vegetables beautifully.

The machine comes with an excellent very informative cookery book which shows how to steam, bake cakes etc, and if you have any doubts check out the excellent Panasonic website.

This is the first convection microwave I've owned and I could not be without it now. It is also a very neat and compact size but makes good sized meals and can cook a bird up to approx 4kg. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Probably the best value microwave combination oven out there   January 19, 2008

I've had this microwave oven for about 4 months now and it does everything I'd need it to do - microwave, grill and oven, and I definitely haven't see any cheaper ones that are as good. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars newer version   March 6, 2008

I think this is the newer version of my oven, I have had mine 7 years and counting. Its the best thing since sliced bread! I use mine all the time My sponge cakes come out perfect every time, I use the grill accessory and oven rack and cook both sponge layers at once. It makes wonderful casseroles also cooks joints and well almost everything I need to cook! I have 4 children so have a large family and it manages perfectly well. I wouldn't be without mine and when it eventually dies will get another Panasonic.
I have another cheaper brand of basic microwave as I found that I was waiting for the oven to finish and piling up food that just needed the microwave, but the other one is nothing compared to this one, it would have been nice to get another Panasonic but don't think my husband would have approved of me spending over 100 on a second microwave (he could just about cope with the 30 I spent) to him a microwave is just a microwave but us mums know better don't we?
The only problem I had with mine was the door cracked after I had it a year but had an extended warranty and it was fixed free of charge with no fuss and the 'new' door is still going strong!
I would recommend this brand to anyone. If you need a new microwave invest in a Panasonic! Its also good as a second oven especially at busy times like Christmas or like me you need to cook for an army every day!

5 out of 5 stars Good quality & cooks very well!   April 8, 2008

As a previous reviewer has mentioned, the oven cooks some things brilliantly, much better Roast Chicken than in my main oven! The CHAOS defrost function is superb, I find food like frozen chicken breasts are defrosted without starting to actually cook them. I haven't used the grill yet so cannot comment.

The build quality is very good throughout. I particularly like the fact that the oven is a good compact size so it doesn't take up too large a footprint on my worktop. The manual is very good and pretty much tells you everything you need to know.
I would knock half a star off as you can only use the preset microwave power ratings, they can't be adjusted, so a lot of the time it is High (1000w) or Medium (600w) and no ratings option in between, 800w would be nice as most ready meals have cooking times for 800w.

I bought this microwave a couple of weeks ago as we have no kitchen at the moment and wanted something to tide us over. I have not been disappointed with this microwave. There are 5 different functions: grill, convection oven, microwave and combination of either grill/microwave or oven/microwave. The instructions are clear and make it extremely simple to use. Food is always cooked in the time stated in the manual.

Highly recommended!
