5 out of 5 stars It Does Exactly What it Says on the Tin!   December 31, 2004

I was given one of these as a Christmas gift along with a couple of Wright's Bread Mixes which turned out to be a first class combination, producing light flavoursome bread with the minimum of fuss.
I later progressed to making bread from basic ingredients following the recipe in the easy to read manual which accompanies the bread maker
Masuring of ingredients is critical and it is worth noting that the measuring cup provided measures 1 American cup and not British.
The breadmaker is very easy to operate and produces the usual "vertical" loaf common to most machines of this type.
There is a small hole left in the bottom of the loaf which is minimised by the fact that the mixing blade is designed to fall flat before the loaf is baked.
This appears to be an excellent machine producing consistently good results and I thouroughly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous breadmaker - buy one!   May 7, 2007

This is a great breadmaker and is currently being sold at a really good price. Unlike many machines on the market which tend to look like white plastic boxes, this one is a classy stainless steel (does get hot to the touch during the baking cycle) and black finish, with some rather fetching curves. The look is important because you will want to keep your breadmaker out on the worktop rather than hiding it away in a cupboard. Mine is in use at least once daily, sometimes more.
It is quite large - if you are thinking of something which has slightly bigger proportions than a standard loaf, then think again, and also quite tall. I have to stand on tiptoes to see the display on the top right hand side which you use to select the programme you want, loaf size, crust colour etc. If I wanted to be negative (which I don't) I might say that the display could do with being backlit, but it's not a big deal. Afterall, you don't want to spend long looking at it. More interesting is to peer through the little viewing window about the baking chamber so you can see the magic at work. (Don't open the lid though!)
I've tried a number of the programmes ranging from the basic (which takes about three hours - I use a 50-50 mixture of white and wholemeal flour which seems to work well), through to the French, which gives a crustier crust and more open texture to the bread. I've also made sweet bread (very tasty), sandwich bread (softer crusts), the quick bake bread (a fresh loaf in about 1 hour and 15 minutes) and pizza dough (very yummy). The machine also makes cakes and jam although I haven't tried that yet. On all the programmes (except the fastbake) you can set the programme to end up to 13 hours in advance so you can set it to finish baking your loaf just before breakfast if you want to awaken to the smell of fresh baked bread. I've got a pizza dough ready in mine at the moment, and I've set it to be ready in about 3.5 hours time when I'll be ready to put it in the oven.
All you do to make a loaf is place the ingredients into the baking pan in the order specified in the manual (which contains a number of useful recipes to get you started, although you'll soon want to experiment), place the pan in the breadmaker, press the appropriate buttons and away you go.
One distinctive feature of this machine is the fact that the paddle which does the mixing folds down at the end of the kneading cycle so that there is a smaller hole in the bread than would otherwise be the case. So far, this has worked perfectly and seems a really good idea.
The bread is also easy to remove from the pan - leave it to cool for about 10 minutes and then a few shakes/taps on the pan, and a beautiful loaf pops out. Those of you unfamiliar with breadmakers might be surprised at the shape of the loaf you get - it's not the same as something from the supermarket - but you soon get used to it, and the bread tastes so much nicer. The pan and paddle are really easy to clean as well which all contributes to the ease with which this machine can be used.
I haven't bought a loaf in the month since this was delivered. We all agree that the bread tastes nicer and is better for us as we know exactly what's in it. It also works out cheaper than shop-bought bread, although while that's nice to know, it would be worth the miniscule effort required even if that weren't the case. I would thoroughly recommend this breadmaker to anyone who eats bread (and there are even a couple of gluten free recipes by the way). Don't put up with what you can buy in the supermarkets. Make it yourself!

5 out of 5 stars Great Value Breadmaker   February 18, 2007

I was very wary before purchasing this breadmaker as I had read varying reviews of it. However, the stainless steel finish and an excellent price from (.....)- I'm so glad it did!

This is an excellent breadmaker for the money. It makes fantastic bread and looks great as well.

I've always stuck to 1.5lb loaves as I found that the bread rises so much, with the 2lb loaf it rose up to the window and then collapsed. However this may be due to the fact that I tend to use less salt in than recommended by the recipes. A well risen 1.5lb loaf is plenty for all the family anyway.

The drop down paddle seems to work successfully, however I have found that I have to dig it out of the bread occasionally - but this isn't too much hassle. If the paddle stays in the pan, a quick soak in hot water removes it easily.

A lot of my family and friends have the far more expensive Panasonic breadmaker and to be honest I think the bread from my breadmaker is just as good.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent machine   January 25, 2007

I was well impressed with this machine, It is the first one we have had, but one tip is, If you use Lo-Salt in the ingredients, It will not taste good, It is necessary to use the normal Table salt to get good results.
