5 out of 5 stars Has anyone thought of this?   December 1, 2007

I took one look at this thing and and decided I was going to buy one for my mum.
She is 80 years old and cannot lift a normal kettle with one hand. Ok the water may not be hot enough to melt the cup but nor is it so hot that it would cause my mum third degree burns should she spill her tea on her hand. I fill the tank for her in the morning and thats enough till I pop back in the evening, or if needed she can use a half pint refilling jug to top up.
As I read in another review on here, Learn to adapt. If making more that one cuppa, the first one is always the coldest so push the button for a second or two letting the water go into a refilling jug, then the water that comes out immediatly after will be hotter.

5 out of 5 stars Ideal for coffee drinkers!   November 19, 2007

There's a lot of mixed reaction to this little device, so I admit to buying it only when I had gained assurance I could return it if it didn't satisfy! Slightly to my surprise, it did:)

As everyone has pointed out: this is NOT a kettle: it does NOT _boil_ water, and is therefore no good for tea or Snackpots. It is however very good for coffee. I find the temperature is just about right after milk has been added. My wife, who likes coffee HOT, enjoys instant latte sachets and coffee made with whitener, and she also approves. We've now owned the QuickCup for two months, and it gets used for about 95% of our hot-water beverages. We keep a regular kettle next to it for the occassions when that is needed (maybe two or three boils a week).

A previous review expressed doubt that this device would affect energy consumption as it was not a kettle and therefore could not be compared to one. I dissagree. This machine not only heats only the water you precisely need, but by not actually boiling it, also uses less energy to do that. In addition to this, the QuickCup does not get noticeably hot while operating: the heat goes to the water and does not escape through the sides as in most kettles.

As regards to noise, the pump mechanism does make a penetrating buzzing noise, but I tried boiling the regular kettle next to it. I was surprised to discover the buzz was actually drowned out by the sound of the kettle boiling. It sounds nonsensical, but the QuickCup isn't as loud as it sounds:)

To conclude: we use the QuickCup constantly and are glad we bought it. Tefal _were_ slightly 'economical' with the truth (the tv ads omit the buzzing sound and you have to read the small-print to discover it isn't actually a kettle) but if you look into the reviews with eyes open, and you are predominantly a coffee drinker, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I bought this product a couple of days ago and im impressed... Yes, its pretty expensive but if your looking for a unique modern gadget for the kitchen then this is perfect. It's easy to be negative about this product as its the 1st of its kind and future designs may well be improved, but thats the same with everything that you buy.

Yes, it does make a noise when its pouring but no louder than the noise of a kettle boiling.

Yes, the water it produces isnt boiling but makes a perfect cup of coffee.

As with making a cup of tea ive found that when you first pour a cup of water using the machine, the water isnt as hot as the 2nd... 3rd... cup that you pour. Therefore ive started pouring the 1st cup away and using the next ones to make tea. This is no hardship at all and is so much quicker than waiting for the kettle to boil.

As with the 3 second claim. It's true, it starts pouring 3 seconds after you press the button and fills a mug in about 10-15 seconds.

Its looks good, it saves time and apparently electricity and the environment.
I'd recommend this product to anyone.

Well I think it's great!

Instant and really hot - burning my tongue prompted me to write the review!
Certainly no noisier than a boiling kettle.
Great for my hubbie who works from home and can just pop down for a cuppa quickly now.
You can set the mug size - and slow dispensing is a myth - press the button once and walk to fridge for milk- 30secs later full mug of steaming water.

Needs a bit of a change of habits - can't just pick up a full recently boiled kettle and pour it into a saucepan - but then nowdays we shouldn't have a full kettle just sittinmg around. My friends are buying them having played with mine. Perhaps the next model can let have two settings for amount.
