4 out of 5 stars Not that bad.   September 18, 2007

I took a risk after reading the previous review and thought I'd buy this one anyway as there isn't much choice in stainless steel coffee makers that you don't need a mortgage for. I'm glad I did.

The coffee is fine (it doesn't taste of plastic at all) and it looks great if you've gone for the steel look in your kitchen.

The one hour cut out thing is probably a good idea if you are as forgetful as I am and anyway all you have to do is press a button to keep it going.

I haven't given it 5 stars because the hinge for the lid came out the other day. I presumed this is for cleaning, but it was a fidddy job getting it back in again.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty damn good   September 27, 2007

Well for the price this is an excellent coffee machine. The programmable timer means it's ready when you want it, and it makes a good tasting coffee in no time at all. The machine is extremely easy to clean and keeps the coffee in the jug hot for a long time. The jug itself seems a little thin, but so far it also seems fairly strong, and looks great! The front of the machine itself is aesthetically pleasing, but the rear (which cannot be seen in the photos) is rather disappointing. That, and the poor material of the buttons, has forced me to rate this as 4 stars instead of 5. The entire machine was surprisingly large, but I guess that's the price you pay for a great coffee machine at such a low cost.

Worth the price!

4 out of 5 stars Good machine   October 10, 2007

This makes good coffee. The brewing temperature appears to be just about perfect, and the timer is really easy to use. It's quite an attractive machine, until you get really close up to it when you can see where corners have been cut to keep the price down. The only thing I can really fault it on is that it's a bit awkward to fill. I always use filter papers, as I hate washing the reusable filters, and find they don't filter as well as paper anyway.

3 out of 5 stars Unimpresserd   January 20, 2008

If this hadn't been a gift, it would have gone back. The lid of the machine is "floppy", the lid of the flask falls open when the coffee's poured and it's not easy to put the water in.

The temperature does appear spot-on however and, if you put a paper filter into the permanent plastic one, there's no problem with taint.

3 out of 5 stars Exactly what you pay for   December 22, 2007

I succumbed to the stainless design at such a reasonable price and gambled on this coffee machine. I received exactly what I paid for - an average cup of coffee from a slightly pretentious machine. The jug does dribble when you pour until you press the button to lift the top before pouring which immediately stops the dribbling. The time is easy to use, but I still have not actually used it. The coffee tastes fine for a budget machine, but the aftertaste is a little too metallic for my pallet. The most disappointing aspect was the lack of the freshly made coffee aroma and the presence of a rather off-putting heated plastic smell. If you are upgrading from a plastic 10 coffee maker, it is a definite improvement. However, if you are downgrading from a decent coffee maker, it's similar to flying economy after years in business class - a disappointing and uncomfortable experience. This coffee machine makes good, plain, consistent, functional coffee - do not expect a luxurious taste and lingering aromas - for that you pay much much more.
