Amazon.co.uk Review
Already a phenomenal success in the US, where it has sold over 25 million units, the George Foreman Baby Grill is a healthy alternative to conventional grilling. Whatever you grill, be it meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, seafood or even sandwiches, any excess fat or liquid is channelled into a collection tray at the front of the unit. Because the machine sandwiches the food between two grills, cooking time is reduced and spitting is practically non-existent.

Operation is simple: simply plug it in and switch it on at the plug socket. The heat indicator light will go out when it is ready to use. The Baby Grill has enough room to cook two medium fish steaks. The grill also features a rather handy bun warmer that is accessed by lifting up the clear plastic cover on the lid of the grill. The instruction manual lists the different cooking times for different foods.

If you're not too concerned about the amount of fat you eat in conventionally grilled foods, this grill may change your mind--the amount of fatty liquid collected in the drip tray from a quarter-pound burger with 92% meat content is unbelievable. Even though there is a large quantity of liquid in the tray, the burger itself remains very tasty and not at all dry.

The grill comes with a grooved spatula that makes it easy to remove food from the grill as it fits perfectly between the grooves on the grill. Removable extension feet give the unit another half-inch clearance from the work surface, enabling foods such as tacos or pitta bread to be placed at the front for easy transfer of any grilled fillings.

Cleaning the grill is a bit more time-consuming than cleaning a grill pan as you can't simply drop it in a bowl of soapy water and attack it with a scouring pad. It is very easy to clean though, as it has a non-stick coating: simply wipe it down with a damp cloth or kitchen paper.

The George Foreman Baby Grill is a must for anyone who uses a grill on a regular basis. It will reduce your fat intake while allowing you to continue eating your favourite grilled foods. The Baby Grill may be a bit on the small side for some people, but a larger Junior version is also available. It's a knockout. --Ben Curtis

5 out of 5 stars Great for singles   June 10, 2003

The baby size is ideal for singles or students; couples should get the junior size. It is very convenient and easy to use.

It does just what it says; it gets rid of the fat, the amount of fat from a burger is amazing. It is easy to clean using kitchen paper, do this while the grill is still warm, no washing up required. The fat collects in a tray and can be easily disposed of when solid. It cooks from the bottom and top so the cooking time is short. It will cook one large burger in 6 minutes from frozen; it also has a bun warmer.

It can also be used as a sandwich toaster. It is great for burgers, steaks, bacon and chicken fillets. It has a floating hinge so thick cuts of steak can be cooked. It can be used for breaded meat and fish, but judging the cooking time is more difficult. It is not so good for sausages and the slope makes using it for eggs difficult:-) It also takes up little room on the kitchen surface and it is portable.

The only disadvantage is that there is no timer and it has to be watched while cooking, but once you know the cooking times you should get a kitchen timer. If you live on your own, get one, you will love it. It will also make a good present for parents to buy their kids when they leave home.

5 out of 5 stars Mmmmm, tasty goodness   April 16, 2003

I got one of these for Christmas this year and thought it'd spend most of its time in the cupboard.
How wrong I was, having this on hand had drastically improved my diet. It cooks chicken steaks beautifully and will even do fish.
Also does burgers a treat but I've cut right down on them because the chicken is so good!

5 out of 5 stars For busy people, health conscious people, and toastie lovers   December 17, 2003

I am a real foodie and was initially very sceptical of this grill. What's the point of bacon or sausages without any fat?

However, the grill has surprised me. It was incredibly easy to set up and plug in. It heats up quickly and easy to use. And the food comes out fairly quickly and pretty well, and need little skill. If you are cooking for more than two people, I think it will be a bit too small for you, but for one to two people it's about right and good for the money.

It does excellent cheese and ham toasties, which is the main reason my girlfriend convinced me to get it.

I have since done bacon, courgettes, tomatoes and all manner of things. You can even get the "professional" looking black zig zag lines on grilled vegetables.

If you are cooking a fair amount of vegetables (or chops or any food come to that matter) a heavy girdle is still better, and if you are not careful, because so much fat does drip out, the food can go a bit dry. Foodie cooks will always advocate the heavy girdle but for convenience I think you can get away with the George Foreman. In a blind tasting, no one could tell the difference on my grilled courgettes.

But for cheese toasties, and for small portions of quick grilled vegetables it can't be beat. It saves you having to lug out the pan or the girdle and all the washing. Still, my frined Terence says the food could do with more fat so maybe not one for the lard lovers out there.

Recommended for busy people, health conscious people, toastie lovers and moderately lazy people, like me. Not recommended for lard lovers or big eaters.

The joy of not having to wash out a grill pan whenever I fancy just a piece of bacon and perhaps a sausage in the morning. This wonderful little machine sits on my countertop and quietly cooks my breakfast to perfection - without the fat. You would not believe the amount of fat that could come out of a single rasher and sausage. Cleaning is very simple - just heat it up and wipe it down. Cooking a single burger for dinner is also a really easy operation. Yes, this is a great little product.

5 out of 5 stars Buns alive. It's a miniature kitchen miracle!   January 17, 2004

My friend Nigel Gilbert recently bought a house with no kitchen, so to soften the blow I bought him the Baby Grill. It is amazing! Far from starving, he is eating like a king. This thing takes up the space of a MegaDrive but cooks a mean burger, while warming the bun as well. Wow! If you're low on kitchen space, this is the gadget for you.
