 Excellent Alternative to Expensive "Therapy" Devices November 4, 2008

We owned a Lumie body clock for 4 years which has since died. I remember when I first received the Lumie device I was distinctly unimpressed with the build quality of the Lumie compared to the price I had to pay. In fact early on it overheated so badly when a pillow got too close that the bulb cover discoloured and all but melted through! That was so nearly a fire......
Why do so many companies seem to associate the "medical" benefits attributed to such devices with a licence to under design and overprice them...!
Not so with the LYS v2 though. It has all features of the "medical" version and more in some cases. It is stylish, built well, the bulb is high up so less chance of "pillow smother", it functions simply and effectively all for 39 - Brilliant! ... please Naf Naf keep it so!
The light bulb is a standard E14 60w frosted Mini Globe/Golf Ball. You can buy "special" daylight bulbs (candle or mini globe will fit in the LYS v2) if you really want to.
All the controls are easy to get to and intuitive.
It is straightforward to make changes to alarm times, wake up settings, to dim or switch on the light, to set the sunrise options.
The only niggle I have is with the radio. It seems to very easily pick up interference and so is a bit "crackly" - but its a minor point one I guess not unique to the LYS v2 and at this price not enough of a problem to mark it down.
Its also fairly tall at 34cm (just over a foot) so you need to check the clearance you have if going under shelves. The top is open so the bulb cools through losing heat out of the top. Therefore, wouldn't recommend restricting the top in any way.
Therefore, its not perfect - but I've given it 5 stars as when compared to the competition its better value for money and functions just as well.
All in all - Excellent value for money - recommended.

this product does the job. Gentle awakening without the noise of a sudden alarm. If you hate getting up in the dark mornings then this is for you. The item is sturdy and easy to use. I was wary of buying as it was alot cheaper than other products, and the reviews of other products gave poor value for money regarding the workmanship i.e. the plastic casing and plastic buttons were flimsy. This product is good value for money and solid in its construction. the only thing that lets it down is the speaker - it is not much good for listening to music on the radio - but I didn't buy it for that purpose. Definately worth buying at 40 compared to the other models which can cost up to and over 100. Ciao

Technical details.
It does work well. It is a lot more pleasant waking up to light.
1)Does only military time "00 to 24 clock"
2)Uses easy to replace normal 60w bulb not a "full spectrum" like philips.
Full spectrum lights have their advantages with added price.
3)large snooze button at the bottom
4)led/lcd display brightness can be adjusted to your level of comfort. You can sleep with the display in your face or make it bright enough to see across the room.
5) The radio does crackle a bit at high volume but I use their choice of 4 alarms. It comes with a corded antennae. Is there a better way to improve reception?
6) you can choose to have an alarm sound or light or both
7) changing alarm time is very easy
8) in night mode radio can automatically turn off after a set time. For those who like to sleep with music.
9) the blue in this photo is a VERY blue. In reality its closer to a greyish pale blue.

I've found this light to be a revelation. As someone who really struggles to get out of bed on dark mornings, this has been a lifesaver! The lamp itself is attractive and I have a lot more room on my bedside table (as I don't need a clock and a light anymore).
Some really nice features of the light include:
- Adjustable brightness/volume for the light/alarm (using dials on the each side of the light).
- You can listen to all the alarm sounds without having to use the alarm.
- The gentle and pleasant nature of all the sounds, even the alarm itself.
- Highly intuitive controls - the mark of good design.
- A battery-operated backup that actually works.
- The display itself, which shows all your settings (if the alarm, sunrise effect is set to on etc.). So you can be sure you've set everything before you sleep.
As another reviewer mentioned, it isn't the bright blue that the picture shows but more a grey/blue, however I would be surprised to hear anyone found this colour offensive.
My only small gripe is that my lamp has an EU plug and didn't come with a plug adaptor (a quick trip to Maplins sorted this out).
I still feel that this lamp represents good value for money and is an attractive addition to a bedroom. It makes waking up almost a pleasure (and I'm NOT a morning person)!

I was initially sceptical upon hearing about these 'sunrise alarm clocks,' particularly when many of them cost 70- 100 for what is essentially a radio, a light bulb and an automatic dimmer switch.
However, when I saw this product and it's reasonable price I decided to give it a go. As someone who is not morning person, it's hard to describe just how nice it to wake up on an early morning, with light in my room, to the sound of the forest. I'm genuinely pleased with the product and it is one that will remain at my bedside for years to come.
Although style wasn't my top priority, this alarm clock is anything but 'naf' and sits well in my room.
Overall it's highly, highly recommended.
